Alternanthera dentata (Joseph's Coat)
This is a compact reddish-purple variety of Joseph's Coat that only grows 12 inches tall and 18 inches wide. Its dwarf, compact habit makes it ideal as a bedding plant or low hedge, but also perfect in containers. It grows well in sun or partial shade, but definitely looks best in full sun. It is best with regular water, though it is somewhat drought tolerant. It likes fairly rich, well drained soil and occasional fertilizer. It is a tropical plant, winter hardy outdoors only in zones 9-11, but can be grown as an annual or brought indoors in colder zones.
