Acalypha wilkesiana (Copperleaf 'Tricolor')
Acalypha wilkesiana tricolor is a variety of copperleaf that has leaves splashed with variegation in several different colors. In the fall it develops a lot more pink on the leaves, which turns to red in the winter. This is not surprising, since copperleaf is a relative of poinsettia. In tropical conditions, it will quickly form a mound 6 feet tall and wide. It can grow much taller if not kept pruned. The flowers are not showy, but they are interesting. It likes ordinary to rich soil, full sun or a little afternoon shade and moderate to regular water. It is very easy to grow from cuttings, in sandy soil or in water. It is a tender tropical plant, winter hardy outdoors only in zones 9-11.
