Abutilon megapotamicum (Chinese Lantern)
Abutilon is similar to its close relative Hibiscus, but with smaller flowers that stay somewhat bell-shaped and hang. This is a trailing/hanging variety of Abutilon megapotamicum, a fast grower that is easy from cuttings. While many Abutilon varieties are commonly called flowering maple, this one is generally known as Chinese lantern. It blooms abundantly most of the year, with bi-colored flowers that are red and yellow. It prefers a bit of shade on hot sunny afternoons. It is best in rich soil with regular water. It is winter hardy in zones 8-10.
